Five products, two varieties, starting a test.

I found myself with a spare few hours and fancied starting a little test, so this afternoon I prepped, polished and applied some products to my daily driver to see what’s what.

The bonnet of my now trusty Fiat Panda 4x4 was washed, decontaminated and polished. Quite happy that just using Meguiar’s Ultimate Compound and a medium to firm pad on a rotary did a quick and easy job of correcting the bonnet. Well, to an acceptable level in daylight outside. Off white paint hides a lot of sins!

Following liberal application of Car Chem Panel Prep to remove all oils, the bonnet was split into these sections:

Detail Bug Magnetize - inspired by pt1’s test, I thought I’d test it against a few other products;
Wowo’s Nanocoat - the wax that Andi at Detail Bug advises inspired Magnetize;
CarPlan SuperGloss No.1 - Underrated, plus I’m sick of seeing the lazy quotes that as it’s CarPlan, the whole bottle must last a year,
let’s see...
Wowo’s Crystal Sealant - I’m putting V1 and V3 side by side to see what the deal is;
CarChem Lockdown - the preproduction version I had was pretty good, but I’m seeing varied reports on the product sold post release. I’m seeing how well this Black Friday one does.

Of course all separate applicators and wipe cloths.

They are all incredibly easy to use, though v1 of Crystal Sealant can get grippy on the buff if you leave it too long. V3 has an element of that, but is more forgiving. All the others are a pure joy to use.

I’ll report back with updates as and when. It will be washed with gentle, neutral products to give them the best potential durability.

Looks great! Interested in the Wowo V vs V3 comparison and the Nano coat as well. I really like Contact 121 so curious to see how it performs.

I’ve been meaning to check out the different Crystal Sealants for a while so thought I’d do it today. It’s also been a while since I’d used the Nanocoat and as I’d been trying to organise my collection a bit, I thought I’d give it a whirl.

Did you post this on the FB page detailing central too? Sure I scrolled past it and remember seeing the Panda..

I much prefer the crystal sealant V3, the trigger spray helps with ease of us and its more forgiving on application too

I cleaned a customers car which had that Carchem on - was mighty impressed with the water beading all over!

Bit of an update after 3 and a bit weeks. All products look to be working well. Initially after a wash, Lockdown looked awful; slow and flat. However, this seems to have resolved and is now working similarly to the rest. Not sure why that is and may be why others are having issues with this product. Here is a video:
